GPs very satisfied
The MJA has published recent findings from the ongoing MABEL study – Medicine in Australia: Balancing Employment and Life – which show high levels of professional satisfaction among GPs. A level of satisfaction around 85% was consistent across GPs in all sizes of community, which contests negative views about the attractiveness of rural general practice.
The results are from the first wave of this longitudinal study which was conducted between June and November 2008 with 3906 GPs, 36% were rural practitioners.
How GPs feel about their work
* More than 80% are happy with their working conditions
* Over 80% believe they have the opportunity to use their abilities in general practice
* 90% enjoy the variety of life in general practice
* About half are satisfied with their work-life balance
* GPs working in rural areas are more satisfied with their level of pay than their city counterparts
