Training providers

The network of 19 Australian General Practice Training (AGPT) program Regional Training Providers (RTPs), provide training programs based on the same AGPT and college standards and requirements. They support each GP Registrar’s formal training with an individual learning plan, plus guidance and monitoring by medical education staff and GP supervisors in the practice environment.

As individual organisations, the RTPs cover different regions and communities, each has their own characteristics, style and experiences to offer GP Registrars. Before applying to enter the AGPT program check that your preferred RTPs can provide training for the pathway, fellowships, training posts, and special interests you want to pursue. Also, discuss with them any particular needs or expectations you have about the organisation of your training program.

Details of training places available in 2011

The RTPs are the frontline in GP training, where all aspects of the training program come together.  You can explore what the training providers have to offer through their websites, and by attending the sessions and events where they speak or have an information stand. They will also be happy to answer questions about any aspect of GP training.

Getting to know the RTPs

The Remote Vocational Training Service (RVTS) operates a bit differently. Its 22 training places can be in any location where a GP Registrar has secured a placement, but cannot easily attend or participate in the AGPT or other GP training programs.
